What this scholarship actually is, and what’s easy to get wrong about it
The HEC Need-Based Scholarship funds tuition and a monthly stipend for undergraduate students at participating public-sector universities selected by HEC. The most common misunderstanding: you don’t apply to HEC directly. You get the form from, and submit it to, your own university’s Financial Aid Office. An Institutional Scholarship Award Committee at the university assesses financial need, and HEC pays the scholarship through the university — funds are not transferred to students directly by HEC. Any site or message asking you to apply through a separate online portal outside your university is not describing this programme correctly.
HEC’s own eligibility page states a stipend of Rs 6,000 per month for the complete programme, alongside tuition fees. Amounts can be revised between cycles, so confirm the current figure with your university’s Financial Aid Office before you rely on it.
Who can apply
- Nationality: Pakistani, admitted to (or already enrolled at) a participating public-sector university or institution
- Programme: Undergraduate study, in the approved disciplines at that institution; you must secure admission through the normal competition first
- Admission type: Students admitted on self-finance are not eligible — HEC’s eligibility page states this explicitly
- Financial need: Assessed by your university’s Institutional Scholarship Award Committee
- Academic standing: Universities may require a minimum CGPA to keep the scholarship in later years; the rule is set by your institution, so ask your Financial Aid Office
